in 1984 the Americans outlawed imported bikes of over 700 cc to help harley davidson keep its share of the big bike market in america so the maxim XJ750 was downsized to XJ 700 cc to comply with the ruling when the ruling was later found to be illegal it was recinded and the maxim returned to its former 750cc capacity so the 700 cc maxim was only made during 1984\85
